John Bovay is an Associate Professor, the Kohl Junior Faculty Fellow, and the Extension Director in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech. His work focuses on using economic methods to analyze public policies related to food and agriculture, with a focus on human health impacts, the distribution of welfare outcomes, and effects on the environment. Current research projects include topics such as food safety inspections and incentives; economics of on-farm food loss and waste; and adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices and developing markets for climate-smart food products.
